What's the difference between the 2-monument and the 5-monument pass?
The 2-monument pass covers the Basilica of San Vitale and the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo (%s). The 5-monument pass adds the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Neonian Baptistery, and the Chapel of St. Andrew inside the Archiepiscopal Museum (%s). The 5-monument pass is what most visitors book — the extra three are the ones that make Ravenna famous.
Do I need to book timed slots?
Yes, for Galla Placidia, the Neonian Baptistery, and the Chapel of St. Andrew. You choose the slot when redeeming the voucher at the ticket office of the first monument. In peak season slots for the same day can sell out — arrive early if you're travelling in July or August.
Is the 5-minute stay at Galla Placidia really enforced?
Yes, and for good reason — the mosaics inside are moisture-sensitive. Five minutes is enough to look up and take it in, but bring your best attention. There is no browsing.
Ticket only or guided tour — which should I pick?
Take the tour if you want the mosaics to make sense — Ravenna's art is richly symbolic and hard to read without help. Take the pass if you already know your Byzantine iconography, are travelling with young kids, or want to move at your own pace. Many visitors do both: tour first, then re-enter with the pass at your own rhythm.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes. Both the pass and the guided tour can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours before your start time. The tour additionally lets you reserve now and pay later.
In which languages is the Complete tour (3 hours, 5 monuments) offered?
The Complete tour runs in English, German, Italian and French. English and Italian departures are the most consistent — German and French are offered but with tighter availability, so book earlier or check the calendar first if either is a must. English-speaking visitors who can't find a slot can also book the 2-hour Essential + a 5-monument pass, which covers Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and the Chapel of St. Andrew.
How do I get to Ravenna?
Ravenna sits on the northern Adriatic coast, about 1h 15m by direct train from Bologna. Trains from Venice take around 3h with a change, from Florence around 3h 15m. The historic centre is compact and pedestrian — all 5 monuments are within a 10-minute walk of each other.
